Introducing the Wayback Machine

OK, so now I’ve done it! I started scanning old newsletters and posting them to the website!

I have a pile (literally) of old newsletters that were passed on to me, and I’ve begun scanning them and adding them to the website.

The quality of one or two is pretty rough, so the scanned version may be hard on the eyes. I’ll do the best I can.

As far as I how I’m publishing these, I’ve tried using an online tool to convert the scanned image to text. That didn’t work very well, so I abandoned that approach. I’ll simply save each page as a picture and insert it into a new document as an image. That means it won’t be searchable, unfortunately.

I’ve created a new website page to post links to these newsletters. Stealing a name from classic cartoons, I’m calling it the Wayback Machine. From the main menu, hover over the Newsletter Archives in the toolbar and it will pop up below that. There’s also a link within the current Newsletter Archives page if you have a technical problem getting to it from the main menu.

Aside from the obvious historical value to keeping our newsletters accessible, there is content that’s still useful. As an example, look at Ernie McDowell’s weathering piece in Vol. 1, No. 2

Hope you find this both interesting and useful.

  1. Robert Cuny's avatar Robert Cuny says:

    Nice seeing the 1971 issues.

The June 1971 issue was stored in my library along with issues dating from 1989 thru 1992.

Regrettably, only the most cutting-edge Beanie and Fearless Leader issue covers of the late 1980s and early 1990s have survived.
